*Deeper Water is not a true standalone contemporary romance novel like the others in this series. You will enjoy it much more if you read the first book Darker Water first. I suggest starting there. 

Also, although I'd planned on this story being a novella, I guess Carson and Laney still had a lot to say. Because, while Deeper Water is shorter than Darker Water and Virtually Impossible, it's still a full-length novel. Oops. :-)
