Turning forty-five ain’t for sissies! My name is Harper Lee Evans, and I am nowhere near where I thought I’d be by the time I reached my “scary” age. Twenty years ago, I was on my way to having everything—a husband, a home, and the promise of a happy future together. Instead of the family I always wanted with him, he chose to have it with someone else behind my back. Since crying about my situation was as useless as a trap door on a canoe, I’ve decided to take control of my own destiny.
I’ve moved from my hometown in the South all the way to Wishful, Washington for two good reasons. One, it’s far, far away from all the nosy gossips...and my cheating soon-to-be ex. And two, I can’t help but hope that there’s something more to the town’s name to help me figure out what to do next. Of course, my slightly odd landlord swears there’s something special about this place, but I don’t know if I can trust an old lady like Freddie who cultivates a poison garden, talks to her cats like they’re people, and keeps trying to get me to join her Single Ladies Society.
As a librarian, I’ve read all kinds of adventures, but now it’s time for me to actually live one, especially in the romance department. Unfortunately, when Freddie disappears, I have to put my new life on hold. It’ll take a lot more than my book smarts to figure things out. Hopefully, my new friends and I will be able to combine our skills to help solve the mystery before things get too weird.
