It starts out with a horse’s skull on a stick, of course: the Mari Lwyd. Then someone is assaulted but he won’t press charges. Bron, a traditional hedge witch, wonders why.
Is it linked to the crack in the ground, and the falling of the standing stones? Someone is stirring up trouble and once again, it’s down to Bron to – literally – unearth the problem.
But she’s not alone.
Her American cousin Maddie is learning all about quaint British Christmas traditions like Boxing Day (does not involve boxing), mince pies (does not contain ground beef), and crackers (you pull them and they go bang… then you put a paper hat on. This is considered to be fun.) Adam is being a strong, capable type of boyfriend, and Dilys is as utterly bonkers as all great aunts should be. Together, they are bound to solve the mystery, stop the earth tremors, rebalance the forces of good and evil, and make it home in time for roast turkey and boiled sprouts… right?
