I’ve known Axel my whole life because he’s Francesca’s older brother, and while I’ve had a big crush on him since I can remember, he’s never noticed me. I’ve just been the ugly, geeky girl that’s friends with his sister. But when I spend Christmas with them at the cabin, he can’t stop staring at me. A lot has changed since he last saw me—and this ugly duckling has turned into a beautiful swan. He asks me to dinner, and because he’s always been my dream guy, I can’t say no. We have a great night, and even though I should just say goodnight, it turns into one of the best nights of my life. But it clearly means a lot more to me than him because he drops me immediately afterward—like a notch on his belt. It’s a painful disappointment, and now I see Axel for what he really is—a shallow jerk. But then he shows up on my doorstep a few days later and asks for another chance. A chance to prove that he’s not shallow, that he likes me for more than my appearance.
