Death Threat for a Hitman (2013)

Alas, our poor killer is having trouble getting paying gigs, so he finds himself working at a customer service counter in a grocery store.  He’s not there for long before a gangbanger issues a death threat.

Of course, the Hitman loves to be challenged, so he decides to take the battle to the gangbangers in his own way and time.

This short story originally appeared in the Spring 2000 issue of the magazine Fantastic Stories of the Imagination (yes, a crime story appeared in a science fiction magazine because the mag was formerly known as Pirate Writings and published a variety of genres).  It was reprinted in Quick Shots, a short story collection by Gary Jonas, along with four more Hitman stories and a variety of other yarns.
